Big news for the Warhawks as they have landed the commitment of what could be the steal of this years 2012 recruiting class.
Lenzy Pipkins, a 6'1 180 pound corner back out of Mansfield Texas has stared on the basketball court his entire life but decided to play high school football for the first time this past season as a senior.
"I told my mom that I wouldn't play football until I was a senior in high school", said Pipkins.
With no film on Pipkins and having never been on the football field, he was a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
Coach Gilbert is credited with discovering Pipkins as he visited the school in the spring where he met the prospect.
ULM said they wanted to see my film after my senior season so I sent it to them and things fell into place".
"I attended a Nike combine last year and ran a 4.4 forty and that's when the big schools started calling me", said Pipkins.
"I liked what I saw from ULM, the chemistry between myself, the coaches and the players was there". "I got to talk to a lot of the players and they all said it was a drama free environment and the coaching staff were like father figures to them".
Pipkins stared on the football field this year too registering 52 tackles, 7 pass break ups and getting his first interception.
"My strength is man coverage so I can see myself in the ULM 3-3-5 defense".
"All the coaches told me my best football is yet to come".
With question marks at the corner back position for ULM, Pipkins could be a prospect that comes in early and gets thrown into the fire.
"Coach Berry said I was their top CB prospect and that they really wanted me at ULM that I would have a shot and coming in and playing early".
Lenzy is a straight A student and scored a 1385 on his SAT's. He is planning on majoring in mass communication at ULM.
