The West Monroe Rebel football program has an amazing 8 state championship since 1993 and talent rich program has been a hot bed for college coaches looking to add talent to their football programs.
As mentioned before, the Rebels added their eight state championship in 2011 defeating the Carencro Bears 20-13. A big part of that success was due to the play of RB/LB Jacob Tyson.
Tyson took his official visit to ULM this past weekend and gave his verbal commitment to the Warhawk staff.
"ULM started recruiting me in the middle of the season last year, they like the speed of my game and how I carry my weight and size so well", said Jacob.
Tyson is 6'2 225 pounds and runs a low 4.6 forty. He was named to the 1st team All 2-5A team as a LB and 2nd team All district as a running back.
"I'm going to be playing OLB or possibly move to DE", said Tyson.
Although Tyson grew up in West Monroe and knows the town well he says his visit did open his eyes to some things he did not know.
"I didn't realize ULM had such a nice weight room". "The people, players, and coaches at ULM made me feel welcome".
Tyson joins his former teammate at West Monroe Tyler Cain and says Cain and he talked about ULM.
"Cain told me ULM is a good school with a program that we can help build together".
Tyson also talked about the rich talent in the Northeast Louisiana.
"Most people want to move out of state but if we can keep the locals in town we can build this program up likes others have done".
Warhawk Nation takes a look at some of the local prospects that have gone onto to sign with ULM on NSD.
