Mbamalu Leads Cajuns Over ULM 90-66

Junior guard Bryant Mbamalu scored 24 points off the bench to lead Louisiana to 90-66 win over Louisiana-Monroe in the Cajun Dome Sunday night.

Mbamalu led four other Cajuns in double figures scoring 24 points on the night. The junior guard hit four three-pointers on the night and was followed in double figures by Elfrid Payton scoring 15 points, Alan-Michael Thompson 12, Shawn Long and Elridge Moore 11 and Steven Wronkoski 10.

The win over ULM improved the Cajuns to to 9-16 on the year and 5-9 in Sun Belt play, while the Warhawks drop to the 3-17 overall and 2-12 in the Sun Belt. With the conference win over ULM, the Cajuns are now in third place in the West Division.

Trent Mackey led the Warhawks with 20 point, including a six-for-eight effort from three-point while Amos Alatayo added 15 points

UL shot 32-for-61 from the floor, while hitting 16-for-19 from the foul line. The Cajuns hit 10 three-pointers and held a 34-25 rebounding edge in the game.

Coach Marlin talked about his team's effort tonight in the post game interview.

"I thought we went out tonight and showed some pretty good energy at both ends of the court," Marlin said. "We shot the ball well and played hard defensively without a lot of mistakes.

"We got off to a good start. We were able to score on the first two possessions of the ball game off of set plays. We did a good job defensively early in the ball game, and then we got lackadaisical and they started attacking us."
