With the win over Denver, ULM clinches at least a share of the West Division Title.
What a way to celebrate senior night. The warhawks only have one senior in
Darien Bynum
, but that didn't stop them from sending the 6'8 center out on a winning note. The ULM Warhawks (17-12, 11-6) defeated
Denver
(4-24, 3-15) tonight 87-51 and in doing so improved to 13-0 at home.
ULM started slow and Denver was able to keep the score close for most of the first half. The Pioneers took a 2pt lead 25-23 with less than 5 minutes left in the half but it was short lived. ULM closed the half with a nice run and took a 33-27 lead into the break.
The Warhawks would come out of the gates in the second half and come out smoking. Denver could do nothing to slow down the onslaught and before they knew it ULM led 58-31. It didn't help either that the Pioneers shot 25 percent in the second half and 29 percent for the game. ULM blistered the nets in the second half shooting 62 percent on 20/32 shooting and 61 percent from 3pt range. For the game ULM shot 45 percent and 52 percent from 3pt range
Tony Hooper
led the way for the warhawks with an all around performance. The sophomore scored 29pts, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 5 assist. For good measure he registered 4 steals and only turned the ball over one time.
Jonas Brown
turned in another solid performance with 20pts and
Jordan Payne
was the only other warhawk in double figures with 11.
ULM returns to the hardwood this Saturday when they travel to
New Orleans
for the season finale. The Warhawks will either need to win that game or hope for a
Arkansas State
loss if they are to be sole champions of the West. ASU defeated
North Texas
tonight 74-71 to remain one game behind Louisiana Monroe. Earlier this season in Monroe, ULM defeated UNO in a nailbiter 68-66.
