After more than a year of rumors and message boards burning up the topic, has the time finally come for the ULM Warhawks to get the much anticipated field turf? The ULM Insider believes it's time for the ULM faithful to start smiling.


For Louisiana-Monroe fans, the topic of field turf has been one of the hottest topics discussed over the course of the past year. Are we getting it, when are we getting it, will it be in place for our season opener, are some of the most common questions we have all been hearing.

It appears that funding has indeed been secured for the purchase and installation of the new field turf that will replace the grass in Malone Stadium. This is big news for diehard ULM fans everywhere, and a big step foward for the University.

Sources have learned that representatives from Louisiana-Monroe's athletic department and the Warhawk coaching staff visited a manufacturer of Artificial turf. As well, several members of the Athletic Foundation joined them.

ULM representatives were on-site to evaluate different turf options for installation in ULM's Malone Stadium later this year. Though several details remain to be decided, it appears that new turf will be in place before the Warhawks' take the field at home against Tulsa to open the 2007 football campaign. A football game that will be nationally telivised by ESPN2. We can thank our great AD Bobby Staub for getting ULM such national recognition.

The football team won't be the only ones enjoying the field turf. Officials have expressed interest in pursuing opportunities to generate additional revenues by hosting more events at Malone Stadium. Stay tuned Warhawk fans, the future looks bright, and we should all be proud of what our adminstrations is doing for our University.
