Ok Warhawk fans, how many of you know the ULM Warhawks hold the Nation's current 10th best home win streak? With a decisive 83-67 victory over Denver last night, the Warhawks improve to 14-0 in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. | |||

The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks secured their trip to the Cajun Dome this weekend with a 83-67 win over the Denver Pioneers. 3,478 fans packed Fant-Ewing to watch ULM advance to the quarterfinals in Lafayette, La. ![]() The student section, also known as the "Hawks Nest", was jam packed, and rocking all night long. Also helping the cause would be the ULM band known as the "Technical Fouls". It also helps when you have the Sun Belt Conference coach of the year patrolling your sidelines. In only his second year at ULM, Orlando Early has compiled an amazing 22-5 home record. The Pioneers would get off to a good start when they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. A huge 16-2 run by Louisiana-Monroe would force Denver head coach Terry Carroll to call a timeout. The strategy seemed to work as Denver would work their way back into the ball game. DU would keep it close and at the half trailed ULM by a score of 42-34. In the second half, the Warhawks fresh bodies, coupled with a depleated Denver bench, would again be the difference in this one. The closest the Pioneers got was 52-48 with 14:49 left in the contest. With 08:28 left in the game, ULM pushed the lead to double digits at 66-56 and never looked back. Tony Hooper led the Warhawk attack scoring 26pts for the home team. Junior SG Jordan Payne scored 17pts and grabbed 7 rebounds. Two other Warhawks scored in double figures as well. Gerald Jackson came off the bench to score 12pts and Afam Nweke chipped in 11. A day earlier, Tony Hooper was named Third Team All-Conference and All-District 8 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Louisiana-Monroe will face a familiar foe when they take on North Texas this Sunday at 4pm. The Warhawks beat UNT 66-62 two weeks ago in Monroe, but had to battle back from 11 down to do so. ULM's last trip down south was not one to remember, but at least this will not be their first trip to the dim lights of the Louisiana-Lafayette Cajun Dome. Last night UNT crushed ULL 93-78 in Denton Tx. Here is the list of teams and their current streaks that are ahead of ULM. BYU(30), Memphis(29), Ohio State(25), Winthrop(21), Wisconsin(21), Notre Dame(20), UCLA(20), Florida(18), Holy Cross(17), and Indiana(16). Six of those teams still have a home game remaining so ULM could move up. |
