5 Warhawks Make Pre-Season All SBC Team

Calvin Dawson, LaGregory Sapp, Zeek Zacharie, Kyle Cunningham, and Adam Hill represent the 2007 Warhawks on the preseason team.
Here are capsules on each honoree:
Senior running back Calvin Dawson is a 2007 Doak Walker Award candidate . First team all-Sun Belt Conference. First team all-Louisiana. Sun Belt Conference rushing champion with 1,210 yards on the season and ranked No. 17 in the nation. Ranked seventh in the Sun Belt in total offense. Became first 1,000-yard rusher in a season for the Warhawks since Bryant Jacobs in 2002. 1,210 yards ranks third on the ULM all-time single season list .
Recorded five consecutive games of over 100 yards on the ground, seven over the entire season . Three 100+ games were against SEC members Alabama, Arkansas and Kentucky . Seven 100+ games on the season tied the ULM record set by Irving Spikes in 1993 . Five consecutive 100+ games tied the ULM record set by Roosevelt Potts in 1990 and 1992, and Irving Spikes in 1993 .
Against Kentucky had a career-high 179 yards. Moved into fourth place on the ULM career rushing list with 1,964 . Also nationally-ranked and Sun Belt leader in all-purpose yards with 1,633. Recorded 155 yards receiving and 268 in kickoff returns . Had 256 all-purpose yards against Kentucky. Ranked sixth in Sun Belt in kick return with a 21.9 yards per return average.
Had 11 rushing touchdowns on the season, upping his career total to 18. Led team in scoring with 66 points, tied for the Sun Belt lead. Named permanent offense team captain for 2006.
Junior wide receiver LaGregory Sapp was a 2006 second team all-Sun Belt Conference selection. Led Sun Belt in yards per reception with 18.5. Second in the league in yards per game (66.3) and fifth in receptions per game (5.23). Ninth on the ULM single season list for receiving yards with 796. Had career-high 137 yards on three catches with one touchdown against Louisiana-Lafayette, including a 64-yard touchdown reception from Kinsmon Lancaster. Had a career-high 8 receptions against Kansas. Also had 104 yards against Kentucky.
Junior tight end Zeek Zacharie was a 2006 second team all-Sun Belt Conference selection. John Mackey Tight End of the Week Award winner for performance against Kansas - career-high 86 yards on four receptions, and two touchdowns. Finished the season as one of the top receiving tight ends in the Sun Belt, ranked in top 10 in receptions per game (2.5 rpg) and receiving yards per game (33.8 ypg). Second on the team in receiving with 30 receptions for 405 yards . Had at least one reception in 11 of 12 games this season ... Also had four tackles on special teams and interceptions.
Senior offensive center Adam Hill is a 2007 Rimington Trophy Award candidate and Lombardi Award candidate. Two-time honorable mention all-Sun Belt Conference. Starting center of the offensive line that ranked sixth in the nation in sacks allowed with only 13. Started 34th consecutive game, every game of his three-year career, against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec.2 . First two years at right guard. Moved to center in 2006 ... Had a season-high grade of 92 percent against Alabama. Recorded a grade of 80 percent or higher in all 12 games. Had a team-high 93 knockdowns on the season, with season-high of 17 against Florida International ... Offensive line made room for 1,000-yard rusher Calvin Dawson and gave ULM quarterbacks room to maneuver for over 2,000 yards in the Also made two tackles.
Senior offensive tackle Kyle Cunningham is a 2007 Outland Trophy award candidate. Two-time second team all-Sun Belt Conference. Second team all-Louisiana. Starting left tackle of the offensive line that ranked sixth in the nation in sacks allowed with only 13. Started 34th consecutive game at left tackle, every game of his three-year career, against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 2 ... Had a season-high grade of 98 percent against Louisiana-Lafayette. Recorded 11 games with a grade of 80 percent or higher. Had 73 knockdowns on the season, with season-highs of 10 against Alcorn State and Arkansas ... Offensive line made room for 1,000-yard rusher Calvin Dawson and gave ULM quarterbacks room to maneuver for over 2,000 yards in the air.
The Warhawks begin the 2007 season on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 when they host Tulsa at Malone Stadium. Tickets are available through the ULM Ticket Office at (318) 342-3ULM.
