Coming into tonight's match up against the North Texas Eagles the ULM Warhawks knew they would have their hands full with the UNT passing attack. The Eagles entered the game putting up a ridiculous 341 pass yards a game.
ULM was able to shut down the Eagle passing attack and force punt after punt. In fact the UNT offense only found pay dirt through the air one time and that came on a freakish 99 yard pass play. A missed tackle and obvious clip in the back call that was made and then picked up would lead to the only passing touchdown for the Mean Green on the night.
The Warhawks were in the backfield all night as they sacked UNT quarterback Giovanni Vizza 7 times and hurried him another 5 times. Leading the way was senior DT Kendall Mouton and sophomore Aaron Morgan who both picked up a pair of sacks. Ricky Williams, David Cooper, and Alaric Coleman, all defensive linemen each picked up sacks.
Sophomore defensive back Greg James again led the team with 9 total tackles(6 solo).Cardia Jackson added 8 tackles while James Truxillo had 7 stops and Josh Thomas 6. ULM's top four tacklers were sophomores.
ULM held the Eagles of UNT to only 202 passing yards on the night on 16/30 passing. Quintez Secka was credited with the only takeaway for the Warhawks when he picked off Vizza in the first quarter. The Warhawks held the UNT offense to 17 first downs while picking up 22 themselves on offense.
The Warhawks return to action this Saturday when they will host the FIU Panthers in Malone Stadium.
