ULM Warhawk Baseball Wins Rubber Match and Takes Series from ASU.
Down early in the game, due to a 2 run homer from ASU first baseman Drew Benes, the Warhawks came back to win and take the series from ASU with a 3 run inning in the top of the ninth. This game marked the last time the Warhawks Baseball team will face the "Indians" in a regular season game, due to ASU changing their mascot to the Red Wolves next season.
Early in the game the Warhawks left two men on base in the 3rd, then loaded the bases with one out in the 4th, only to come up empty. At that point, ULM was down 2-0.
Dexter Fontenot hit a RBI single in the 5th to score Prevost, then Fontenot got in a run down to score Suire. The Warhawks were led at the plate by A.J. Siggers and Matt Laird, both with three hits on the day.

In the top of the ninth, with the score tied 3-3, ULM had its first two batters hit by a pitch. Suire then stepped up and layed down a sacrifce bunt. The scarifice bunt ended up being a two run bunt that left Suire at 3rd due to a throwing error by reliever Jett Jones. Siggers added one more run the in ninth scoring Suire on a RBI Single. The Warhawks got another solid performance from Senior Josh Lett. The Southpaw went 8 innings scattering 10 hits and gave up 3 runs (1 earned). Lett walked two, struck out 7 and lowered his ERA to 2.16 while picking up his team high fourth win.
I would like to think my brother and I are two of the starting members of the Left Field Lounge, but since moving to Shreveport, LA three months ago, I have had to spend alot of my time behind my computer listening/watching the Warhawks. I told my brother, Tim Rightsell, that ASU was going to be a tough series. Be reminded, they did sweep The University of Louisiana at "Lafayette" last weekend and knocked off a high ranked Ole Miss team. My words still hold true. ASU is a good team, as they proved it to us this weekend.
I am excited about ULM Baseball and the community should be excited too! This team has heart and the bats to back up that heart! Good luck to the Warhwaks and there series next weekend against a Flordia Atlantic team that is at the top of the Sunbelt with us. I can't wait to make it to the Left Field Lounge that weekend to enjoy some great College Baseball!
Go Warhawks!
