The first place ULM baseball team hits the road this weekend for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Warhawks (20-11, 12-3 Sun Belt) lead the conference at the midway point of the season after winning all five of their Sun Belt series. ULM has done so with solid play in all three aspects of the game.

In Sun Belt games, ULM is third in batting average (.333), tied for second in home runs (25), second in ERA (5.31), fourth in fielding percentage (.974) and first in double plays turned (19).

Louisiana-Lafayette (16-15, 7-8) enters the weekend series winners of four straight overall and two straight in the Sun Belt after winning 2-of-3 at Middle Tennessee last weekend. The Ragin Cajuns trail the Warhawks by five games heading into the weekend and are currently sixth in the league standings.

Statistically the Cajuns have the best pitching staff in the league with a 4.77 ERA in conference tilts, but ULL has struggled at the plate and in the field ranking last in batting average (.247) and tied for last in fielding percentage (.947).

ULM will be looking to snap an eight-game losing streak to Louisiana-Lafayette and make up some ground in the all-time series which ULL leads 57-41 dating back to 1954.

The Warhawks have the nation’s eighth-best road mark (10-3) and are 7-1 against teams from the state of Louisiana this year.

First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Jared Jennings (3-2, 3.48) taking the bump for the Warhawks and Hunter Moody (5-2, 2.39) toeing the rubber for the Cajuns.

Saturday’s contest is slated for 2:00 p.m. with ULM’s Drew Graham (1-2, 7.15) squaring off against ULL’s Danny Farquhar (3-4, 2.77).

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with Josh Lett (5-1, 3.32) throwing for the Warhawks and Michael Cook (4-2, 4.50) getting the nod for Louisiana-Lafayette.

All three games will be broadcast live on The Peach 99.3 FM. Live audio, video and stats will be available at ULMAthletics.com.
