After leading the whole way, the ULM Warhawks gave up the lead in the top of the 7th on a 3 Run Homer by Blue Raider first baseman Bishop. That big knock gave MTSU a shot lived 4-3 lead.
In the top of the 7th, ULM would fight tooth and nail to get the lead back. After a walk to ULM second baseman Kyle Suire loaded the bases, Dexter Fontenot drew another walk forcing in the tying run 4-4. A.J. Sigger would follow with a high ground out to first base and that would score Jon Prevost and give ULM the lead back 5-4.
Things looked bleak for the Warhawk in the top of the 8th when MT got runmers on 2nd and 3rd with one out. A big strikeout by Derek Ward and then a great catch by Siggers in center field stranded the runners and ULM retained their 5-4 lead.
The Warhawks took an early lead in the bottom of the first when Kyle Suire singled home Jon Prevost. Dexter Fontenot then followed with a double scoring Suire giving ULM a 2-0 lead.
Matt Laird added another run for ULM when he hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth giving the Warhawks a 3-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Jared Jennings was a workhorse throwing a career high 135 pitches. He lasted 6 1/3 innings giving up only four hits and two earned runs, walking six and striking out five.
ULM closer Derek Ward came on in the 7th and worked the final three 3 2/3 innings and picked up his fifth win of the season. Ward gave up four hits, two earned runs, walked one, and struck out six.
The Warhawks were led at the plate by Jon Prevost, Matt Laird, and Kyle Suire, who all picked up 2 hits a piece on the night.
With the win ULM snaps a seven game MT win streak and moves to (25-12, 15-4 Sun Belt), while the Blue Raiders drop to (20-15-1, 9-9).
