The Warhawks needed someone to step up big time and Kyle Smith was the just the man to do it Saturday night. Smith was very effective going 7 1/3 innings giving up just three hits and no runs. The senior from Ouachita Christian High School in Monroe walked three and struck out five while throwing 95 pitches.
ULM first baseman Matt Collins returned to the lineup and hit sixth home run of the season, a two run shot that plated Ryan McMillan.
ULM closer Derek Ward came on and worked the final 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits, walking one and striking out one. Tonight marked the 20th time the Warhawks have scored 10 or more runs in a game this season.
For Florida Intercontinental, err, Florida Intergalatic, ummm, Florida Atlantic? Maybe the home team announcer will figure out what team they are hosting tomorrow because he obviously has no clue.
The ULM Warhawks will go for their eight conference series victory in the rubber match tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
