After dropping game one at home to the Demons of Northwestern State, ULM returned the favor last night. The Warhawks traveled to Natchitoches, La and took the second game 8-1 behind a standout pitching performance from Freshman Jordy Poche.
Jordy held the Demon bats in check all night allowing only one run on five hits in eight innings of work. Poche struck out six batters and improved to 2-0 in just his fourth start of the season.
The Warhawks (30-15) got big home runs from Kyle Suire (15) and Nate McMillan (6) in the victory. Suire sent a solo home run over the fence to start the third inning while McMillan's three run homer extended the Warhawks lead in the sixth inning to 7.
First baseman Matt Collins was the only warhawk to register a multi-hit game going 2/3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Matt started the scoring with a 2 RBI double in the second inning.
Nick Maragas was given the day off at catcher moving Ryan McMillan behind the plate allowing Nick Wade to start at third base. Wade finished 1/4 with an RBI.
ULM closer Derek Ward came was called on in the ninth inning and slammed the door on the Demons pitching a perfect inning, striking out two.
