"We are going to really shock some people this year", said Cameron Blakes. Teams are used to us coming out in the I-Formation and just running straight at them. We have a pro-style quarterback now that can spread the field out. We came out against West Monroe in the spread and we had them on their toes the whole game".
While teams will have their hands full with the Lion offense, opposing offense's will have to deal with Blakes on the defensive side of the ball. "We are playing more of a 4-2-5 defense this year and that is something I am very comfortable with. For the most part I will play safety and the rover positions but sometimes the coaches move me to FS".
As a junior Cameron logged 85 tackles, forced 3 fumbles, had three interceptions, and registered 4 sacks. College teams are noticing too. "So far I have offers from ULM, Tulane, and McNeese. I am excited about the ULM offer, I like where their program is headed. I attended one of their camps and the locker rooms are all getting re-done, its going to look nice. Plus ULM is close to home and I am looking to stay close to home".
Blakes is 6'2 and 210 pounds. He has a bench of 315, squat of 435 and runs a 4.6 forty time. "I scored a 17 on the ACT the first time but I am talking it a couple more times", said Cameron. Current ULM Warhawk LaGregory Sapp is also a graduate of OPHS.
Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, La has been home to some of the states biggest talent in recent years. Lions safety Cameron Blakes is going to continue that tradition in 2009.
