“There is a buzz around Malone Stadium today and it’s an exciting time for ULM football,” head coach Charlie Weatherbie said. “We are looking forward to getting on the practice field tomorrow afternoon and begin working on implementing the offense and defense.”
The Warhawks will workout in helmets and shorts for the first four practices of the fall before strapping on the pads Wednesday afternoon. Following the first full contact practice (Wednesday), ULM will begin two-a-days on Thursday morning.
ULM returns six starters on offense and defense from last year’s squad that won five of its final six games. Also back for the 2008 campaign is All-Sun Belt punter Scott Love and deep snapper Brandon Woodside.
Tight end Zeek Zacharie, safety Greg James and Love were named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Team announced last week at the annual media days in New Orleans, La., while the Warhawks were picked to finish third – the highest preseason SBC ranking in school history.
The Warhawks enter the season with the second best conference record among the Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) teams in the state of Louisiana over the past four seasons.
