A week after dropping a heart breaker to FAU on a last second touchdown pass, the Warhawks regrouped at home and knocked off the Sun Belt Conference's leading Troy Trojans 31-30.
ULM jumped on the Trojans early when Darrell McNeal lined up at quarterback. Running out of the "Warhawk" formation, McNeal took the snap and ran around the left end for a seven yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked by Troy as ULM led 6-0.
ULM would get that point back plus one more when a high snap to Troy quarterback Levi Brown rolled into the end zone. Brown was able to scoop the ball up but was slammed down by ULM DE Jameson Jordan for the safety increasing the Warhawks lead to 8-0.
Troy would answer with a 17-0 run and take a 17-8 lead into halftime. An 11 yard touchdown pass from Brown to Andrew Davis would put Troy on the board. A Glusman 47 yard field goal extended the lead to 10-8 followed by a Brown to Cornelius Williams 5 yard strike completed the first half scoring for Troy.
ULM would fight back in the third quarter when Kinsmon Lancaster hit junior tight end Mitch Doyle with a five yard scoring pass to cut the Trojan lead to 17-15.
Lancaster would throw his second touchdown pass on the night when he found a wide open Frank Goodin down the right hand sideline. The touchdown put ULM back on top 22-17.
The Trojans would answer back when tailback DuJuan Harris broke multiple tackles and rumbled 45 yards for the score giving the lead back to Troy 24-22.
Following a 9 play 21 yard drive, ULM kicker Radi Jabour nailed a 48 yard field goal to put ULM back on top 25-24. The kick split the uprights and was good from 55.
With just under five minutes to play the Trojans looked like they would escape Malone stadium with a victory. Levi Brown threw hit third touchdown pass of the night when he hit DuJuan Harris for the 29 scoring strike. The 2pt conversion was no good and Troy led 30-25.
With starter Kinsmon Lancaster on the bench with a knee injury, reserve quarterback Trey Revell was sent on to rally the Warhawks.
ULM drove 72 yards on 9 plays converting several key third downs on the way. A big pass play to tight end Zeek Zacharie set ULM up at the Troy 11 yard line. Three plays later Revell threw a perfectly throw quick slant to junior wide out J.J. McCoy who caught the ball the four and dove in for the touchdown. On the drive Revell was 4/4 for 41 yards and the touchdown.
With only :34 seconds remaining this one is over right? ULM fans remember last week as well as last year when only :25 seconds remained when Middle Tennessee returned a kickoff 89 yards to steal a victory.
The Trojans almost did it on the kickoff as they returned the ball to the ULM 50 and picked up five more as the Warhawks were off sides on the kick off.
With 2 timeouts remaining, Troy could only move the ball 6 yards to the ULM 39 forcing a potential 56 yard game winning touchdown. Glusman's attempt came out low and had a sideways spin on it. For ULM fans the kick was in the air forever before it doinked off the crossbar and bounced backwards sealing the victory for ULM.
As the ball fell harmlessly to the ground ULM players, coaches, and fans stormed onto the field to celebrate a big senior day victory. ULM (3-6) will travel next week to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee.
