ULM Focuses On Defensive Prospects

The Warhawks hit the jackpot this past weekend securing 6 verbal commitments across the south and locked up most of their skill position needs. This weekend ULM will focus on the defensive side of the ball as they bring in a host of Scout.com's top defensive talent.

Another potential big week awaits the ULM Warhawks this weekend as they will try to secure much needed help on the defensive side of the ball.

ULM will hit the high school and junior college ranks in search of some big men to fill in the gaps on the defensive side of the ball.

Leading the way will be big DT Quinn Anthony of Rusk high school in Texas. Anthony 6'3 280 is an opposing force and was named as a unanimous choice to the District 18-3A All-District Team.

Another outstanding and highly recruited prospect on campus will be Longview DE Christopher Knighton (6'3 240 4.8). Chris has been on official visits to Utep, ULL, and LaTech and holds offers from all three.

A couple of juco prospects will also be on hand to check out the ULM campus. Itawamba CC defensive tackle Kelvin Jackson (6'3 320) and Pearl River CC defensive lineman Johnny Roberts (6'3 285) will visit. Jackson was named to the NJCAA All Region 2nd Team.

Rounding out the defensive line will be names that are already familiar to ULM fans. Verbal commitments Blake Cogswell, Chad Brown, and Kevin White will take their official visits.

Moving onto the defensive backs, North Gwinnett Georgia's Robert Nelson will be on campus along with Stone Mountain Georgia's Robert Nelson.

Not quite done are the Warhawks on the offensive side of the ball as four more athletes will be in for officials.

Kevin Steed, a 6'4 215 pound TE from Lithia high school in Georgia is a high lean to the Warhawks and is very interested in the ULM Pharmacy program. Warhawk Nation looks for Mr Steed to pull the trigger this weekend. Steed caught 53 passes for 992 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2008

Running back Monterrell Washington out of Bryan, Texas is visiting as well as ULM verbal commitment and speedster Otis Peterson.

Looking to add stability to the ULM kicking game will bring Kevin Roberts, (yes we have 2 kids by the same name coming in) a 5'10 170 pound kicker/punter from Union Grove high school. A quick note on Roberts; he is the #1 ranked K/P in the nation according to prokicker.com

There is one more big time recruit coming in this weekend but due to his participation in basketball will not take his official visit until Sunday and Monday. More information on this young man over the weekend.
