New O-Line Coach Vice Talks

Vance Vice

Arriving at ULM with less than a month to go in recruiting season, new offensive line coach Vance Vice was able to bring two big and talented offensive lineman on board for 2009.

ULM commitments Nick Hawkins, and Brock Wempa are commitments of new offensive line coach Vance Vice's quick work in his short time at ULM.

Nick Hawkins - Nick is a big kid that is no where near through growing. He wears a size 18 shoe. When he grows into those Nick is going to be a big ole boy. His best football is by far ahead of him. Nick is up to about 270 right now and with his athleticism and motor, he will be able to help us out in the future.

"We are looking at tackle for Nick, I tried to find some guys that were athletic big man that can move and Nick fits that mold".

Brock Wempa - "He was at Iowa State and with the coaching change decided to go a different route. Brock is a tremendously strong guy that brings a big motor and a physicality to the game that you like to see. He has played tackle in high school but I think he can play any position on the line".

"Brock is a plus 1,500 pound power lifter who is a workout freak. He looks like he weighs 260 pounds but he is 302 pounds and is put together well. He got 7th in the state of Texas last year in the power lifting meet (bench, squat, dead lift) and this year will go for 1,600 pounds. "Brock is different that most guys I have been around", joked Vice.
