Signing Day Thoughts & Whispers

Signing Day Thoughts & Whispers

Warhawk Nation was on hand for the 2010 signing day bash at ULM. There was plenty of information flying around and we took notes. Scoop Inside.

Josh Allen, the Warhawks overall top ranked recruit just finished playing in the All American game in Florida as a member of the USA team.

Justin Criswell overall might me the most dynamic player in this class. Coach Berry really likes his versatility. Primary will be used on defense but not ruling out a potential double duty as kick returner or some offensive sets.

Centarius Donald got rave reviews from Coach Berry. At 6'1 and 210 pounds, Berry says you haven't seen nothing yet. "This kid will eat and he will get a lot bigger". A 6'1 225 - 230 pound back is likely what defenses will see in another year. Roosevelt Potts anyone?

Jon Fisher will likely play the OT position.

Elliot Hilliard, a late addition can be an inside or outside defensive lineman, depending on how his weight goes. They like him a lot.

Cordero Smith is a legit 6'1 and 190 pounds and flew under the radar after messing up his knee his junior season. He's big and physical and will be a player for us in a year or so.

April 23-25 is Super Warhawk Weekend. The spring game will begin at 1PM followed by a crawfish boil. The mens baseball team will take on FAU at 4PM.

The word discipline was used many time, more on this later.

Ben Sheets donated a large chunk of change but we are not sure of the exact amount yet. Coach Berry announced it.

We have quite a few scholarships left but Berry talked about the importance of balancing these classes out. If you look at the roster he have like 11 seniors this season and maybe the same or less next year. Then we have a 20+ sophomore class. Have to get that back to normal.

Coach Berry talked about passing on taking a quarterback in this class. "If we were going to take one, he has to be a great leader and a great student and we didn't see that". We have depth at the QB position that we are pleased with.

The punter and kicker position was addressed. Coach Berry said that you normally don't burn a scholarship on a kicker or punter that those are earned. That said they staff is looking for special teamers to walk on.

The non local flavor of this class was addressed. "This is not a representation of how we will recruit locally. Given the time we had our staff had to work off the relationships we already had. We only had a little over 2 weeks to recruit".
