ULM senior running back Frank Goodin has been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List the PricewaterhouseCoopers SMU Athletic Forum announced Wednesday afternoon. The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the NCAA’s top running back.
Goodin enters the 2010 season fourth on the ULM all-time rushing list with 2,505 career rushing yards and second on the all-time rushing touchdown list with 22 career rushing touchdowns. He needs 874 yards and nine touchdowns to pass Calvin Dawson in both categories.
The West Monroe, La., native tallied 1,126 rushing yards last season to become the 10th running back in ULM history to top the 1,000-yard mark – his total ranked as the fifth best in school history. Goodin found the end zone 13 times on the ground last season which was good for the second most in school history and just one shy of the ULM record. He had five 100-yard games in 2009 and has topped the century mark eight times in his career.
The field will be narrowed down to a group of semifinalists on Nov. 10 before the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will vote on the finalists to be announced on Nov. 22. The recipient of the 2010 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on ESPN on Dec. 9 during The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards telecast.
ULM opens the 2010 season on Sept. 11 against No. 17 Arkansas in Little Rock, Ark. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
